Our History

Ernie Ongaro

Founding father

In 1932, Ernest V. Ongaro founded Ongaro Plumbing, with his first shop in Fairfax, California. By 1940 he relocated to nearby San Anselmo, where we continue to operate (with an office in Santa Rosa as well). Heating repair and installation were added, and sons Donald, Ernest and Richard joined to help with the growing company.

Next generation

After 40 years in business, Ernest V. retired. The third generation has joined ever-growing Ongaro & Sons, starting with current President, Ernest J., grandson of Ernest V. During the 1980s, Ongaro & Sons celebrated its 50th anniversary and grandsons, Dean, Mitch, and Paul Ongaro joined the company. In 1999 Ernest V. passed away.

Sonoma County expansion

In April 2001, Ongaro & Sons purchased Crane & Son Plumbing & Heating, a company that had served Sonoma County since 1945. With that acquisition, we continue with the tradition of providing our customers with quality workmanship and exceptional service, in both Marin and Sonoma counties.

Training and education

We’re committed to employee education and career development. Our Technicians are continuously updated on industry improvements and changes. They attend classes sponsored by industry leaders and attend Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors (PHCC) training, and other classes that help improve their knowledge. Our own Customer Service Department handles all incoming calls to collect initial information, ensuring your needs are properly met.

Flat-rate pricing

We adopted flat rate, by the job (not the hour) quote-based service pricing for repair/replacement sales. We are a Trane Comfort Specialist dealer, an industry honor, allowing us to offer the most reliable heating and cooling equipment available. We use advanced test equipment including duct testers, blower doors, flow hoods and duct and sewer cameras, just to name a few.

Professional pride

All service calls go to our in-house dispatch department and our lead source coordinator for equipment replacement. Our professional crews take pride in their work. They arrive wearing company uniforms in easily identifiable vehicles. We carefully protect customers' property and take extra steps to ensure that our customers' floors, walls and furnishings are covered when needed. All our technicians wear shoe covers in customers' homes and are always at the ready.

Your satisfaction

Our goal is 100% customer satisfaction through your involvement. Whether it's service or equipment replacement, we go through a thorough consultation process with you. We find out what’s important to you, and let you know all your options. We have found this process provides you with the highest level of satisfaction.
